Marriott Bonvoy has opened registration for its second global promotion of 2026. Register, complete a paid stay of two or more nights between 22 September and 22 November, and you'll bank 1,500 bonus points. Do that stay at a participating resort and Marriott adds another 3,000 points, taking the total to 4,500 per stay.
Nobody is going to change their travel plans for 1,500 points. If you already have a Marriott stay booked for October or November though, it would be rude to leave them on the table when all it takes is a ten-second registration. Sign up now, then read on for the quirks in the terms that decide whether you see 4,500 points or nothing at all.

What the points are actually worth
Marriott Bonvoy points are the loose change of hotel currencies. We value them at around 1 Australian cent each for a decent hotel redemption, and less if you push them out to an airline. On that basis:
Converting to airlines makes it worse. Marriott transfers to Qantas, Velocity, KrisFlyer and most other partners at 3:1, so a full 4,500-point resort bonus becomes 1,500 airline points. That covers a coffee at the airport.
Treat this promo as a small rebate on stays you were already going to make. If you have a Bali, Fiji or Gold Coast resort trip booked in October or November, 4,500 points per stay is free money. If you don't, it isn't a reason to create one.
The bonus is paid once per stay
A stay is one or more consecutive nights under the same reservation at the same property. The bonus is paid once per stay, whether that stay is two nights or ten.
In practice:
- A four-night trip split across two separate two-night bookings at the same property earns the bonus twice. Two bookings at two different properties in the same city does the same thing. Checking out and back in on one reservation does not.
- Longer stays don't earn more. There's no reason to extend a trip for this promo.
Marriott's terms also state that only one room at one property per stay counts. Booking two rooms for the family still earns a single bonus.
Which properties count as resorts
Marriott doesn't define "resort" in the terms beyond "resorts participating in both Marriott Bonvoy and this promotion". In practice that's properties Marriott itself classifies as resorts, which usually means the name ends in Resort, Resort & Spa or similar, plus a chunk of the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, W and Westin portfolio in leisure destinations.
For Australians the obvious candidates are the Marriott and Sheraton resorts on the Gold Coast, Port Douglas and Fiji's Denarau Island, and the large stable of Marriott-branded resorts across Bali, Phuket, Koh Samui and the Maldives. Check the participating resort list on Marriott's promotion page before you book rather than assuming a property qualifies. If a hotel is missing from that list, you'll get the base 1,500 points only.
Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy stays earn the base 1,500 but are explicitly excluded from the resort bonus, regardless of how resort-like the villa is.
The exclusions that will catch people out
- Award and Cash + Points stays. Paid rates only. Burn points on the stay and you earn no bonus.
- Third-party bookings. Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda and most agent rates are out. Book direct via Marriott's site, the app or the hotel. Corporate and government rates that earn points are fine.
- Excluded brands. Bvlgari, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Marriott Executive Apartments. Stays in your own week at Marriott Vacation Club and the other timeshare clubs are also out.
- Miles earners. If your account earns airline miles on stays instead of points, switch it to points before check-in.
- Stays before you register. Only stays completed after registration count. It takes ten seconds, so do it today.
Stays that overlap the promo dates
A stay that starts before 22 September or ends after 22 November qualifies as long as at least one night falls inside the earning window. A stay from 20 to 23 September, or 21 to 24 November, still earns the bonus.
When the points post
The 1,500 base bonus posts within 10 business days of checkout, alongside the stay itself. The 3,000 resort bonus and any Homes & Villas bonus can take up to eight weeks after the promotion ends, so don't expect to see the full 4,500 until January 2027 in a worst-case scenario. If you're planning to transfer those points to an airline for a specific booking, don't count on them being there before then.
