Qatar Airways Extends Privilege Club Status - March 2026
Qatar Airways will soon offer status extensions for members affected by airspace closure.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably know travel via Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi isn't what it used to be. Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Al-Khater has sent an email to Privilege Club members confirming that tier status extensions are coming for those whose status was due for renewal during the ongoing airspace closure.
Since 28 February 2026, Qatari airspace has been closed following the outbreak of conflict in the region, and Qatar Airways has suspended all scheduled operations. The airline is currently running a severely limited schedule through special corridors — far from business as usual.
What We Know
Here's the key part of the CEO's email:
"In recognition of your loyalty, we are implementing tier status extensions for all members whose status was due to be renewed and may have been affected during this period, allowing them to continue enjoying the benefits they love. We will be contacting members who are eligible for this extension by email with more details in the coming days."
That's about as much detail as we have. No word yet on how long the extension will be or the exact cutoff dates for eligibility. Qatar Airways has said they'll reach out to eligible members directly, so keep an eye on your inbox, we've requested comment from Qatar Airways and will update this article when we learn more.
For those still holding onto Privilege Club Platinum (One World Emerald) or Gold (One World Sapphire), some of us since the original status match back in 2020 — this is welcome news.
Al-Khater also confirmed that every open booking, refund request, and unresolved complaint is being treated as a priority. Qatar Airways has a rather flexible policy in place right now regarding refunds and rebookings which is great to see.
What Should You Do?
Make sure your contact details are up to date in your Privilege Club account so you don't miss the eligibility email. If you've got a disrupted booking, manage it via qatarairways.com as call centres are likely stretched.
As a reminder, if you have a confirmed booking between 28 February and 28 March 2026, you're eligible for two free date changes (new travel up to 30 April 2026) or a full refund.
This is a developing story. We'll update this post once Qatar Airways confirms the full details of the status extension.
