It’s back! Virgin Australia is offering double status credits to Velocity Frequent Flyers until November 24 for flights between November 18 and October 13 2020. You will need to book your flights before November 24, so time is limited!

Before you book anything, make sure to head over to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account and scroll to the “my offers” section on the site. There you will see the double status credit offer which you will need to activate BEFORE booking your flights.

If you just booked some flights before activating the double status credit offer; you won’t be eligible, unfortunately.

Can I Family Pool Double Status?

100%! If you’ve set up family pooling, any double status credits members in your pool earn will be credited to you. Just make sure you also activate the offer on their accounts before booking anything.

What Are Eligible Flights?

It’s important to note that the only flights that qualify for double status credits are those with a VA flight number, operated on a Virgin Australia aircraft. This means codeshare flights on partner airlines such as Singapore Airlines do not qualify for double status credits.

When Was The Previous Double Status Credit Promo?

The last time we saw Velocity Frequent Flyer offer double status credits was back in May 2019.

Is Velocity Status Worth It?

It all depends on your flying habits; for most people, the answer will be no. If you only travel a few times a year or you’re mainly flying business class, status won’t give you enough benefits to justify the cost of a status run.

I took advantage of a hack that allowed me to gain Platinum Status for a total cost of $650. That deal is now finished, but if you’re curious, you can check out my post on how to “hack” Velocity Gold/Platinum status here.

Velocity Platinum Status

If you’re new to Velocity Frequent Flyer or you want to learn more about status and how to earn it. Check out our Velocity Frequent Flyer guide here where we go in-depth on how to earn and burn Velocity Points.

Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Run Ideas

The easiest way to gain the status credits required for Gold or Platinum is to fly cheap business class routes. One of the most popular status runs for Velocity Frequent Flyer is the Hobart to Dunedin run in business class.

The total fare can be had for AU$1164 which will yield a total of 760 status credits during double status promotions. That’s only 40 credits short of retaining Platinum.

If you want to make it a tropical holiday, you can also plan a status run to Rarotonga for around $1582 in business class return. The route will take you from Sydney to Melbourne and to Rarotonga via Auckland. The result is a tidy 840 status credits during a double bonus period.

Pro Tip: If you have an American Express Platinum/Business Platinum or Centurion cards, you also get access to discounted Virgin Australia Business Class flights. This can often save you an extra few hundred dollars when you book via Amex travel. Or try one of our many Virgin promo codes.

Here are the T&Cs for this offer

To be eligible for the Double Status Credits promotion you must

(1) Activate this offer through the activation link contained in this email or via www.velocityfrequentflyer.com within a members dashboard under ‘Activated Offers’ between 12.01 am AEST November 18, 2019, and 11.59 pm November 24, 2019, inclusive (Promotion Period);

(2) after offer activation, book and ticket an Eligible Flight during the Promotion Period and enter a valid Velocity membership number at the time of booking, and (3) complete travel on an Eligible Flight.

An Eligible Flight is any Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight and fare class for travel between November 18, 2019, and October 13 2020 (inclusive) that normally earns Status Credits.

Changes to existing bookings made prior to the Promotion Period are not eligible for this offer. Status Credits cannot be earned on Velocity Reward Seat bookings.

Bonus Status Credits will be applied to the originally purchased fare class, and any upgrades will not attract bonus Status Credits. Eligible Flights that satisfy the above eligibility criteria are eligible to earn 100% more Status Credits than the Status Credits that would normally be earned for that flight and fare class.

This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Where multiple guests are listed on the same booking, only those guests who satisfy the above eligibility criteria are eligible for this offer.

You should allow up to 4 weeks after satisfying the above eligibility criteria for the bonus Status Credits to be allocated.
