World’s 50 Best Hotels List Honours Calile Brisbane & The Tasman Hobart
Unveil the ultimate in luxury travel with the 2024 World’s 50 Best Hotels list, showcasing breathtaking accommodations from Australia and beyond that promise to elevate your getaway. The team behind ‘The World’s 50 Best’ is renowned for its prestigious rankings of the top restaurants and bars worldwide. Last year, they expanded their expertise to include hotels, with the 2024 awards held in London last night, bringing together the global travel and hospitality community to celebrate the finest hotels around the world. The awards are determined by a vote from six hundred independent industry leaders, including hoteliers, travel journalists, luxury travellers, and hospitality professionals.
Tim Brooke-Webb, Managing Director of The World’s 50 Best Hotels, expressed his excitement in unveiling the list, aiming to inspire travel enthusiasts to select truly spectacular destinations for their next adventures.
“Our heartfelt congratulations go out to every hotel on the list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our Academy of travel experts.”
In Australia, two properties shone brightest, with The Calile in Brisbane ranked at number 25 (dropping from 12th place last year) while also being named the best hotel in Oceania.
“To have been selected two years in a row marks a significant affirmation of The Calile’s place on the global hotel industry stage … we are humbled to again represent Australia and be recognised as leading in the Oceania region,” says Calile co-owner Catherine Malouf.
The Calile has established itself as a standout destination with its bold Miami-inspired design, premium dining, and unique Juliet balconies. Its design seamlessly incorporates a tropical resort within a city streetscape, with the highlight an outdoor pool terrace featuring cabanas and sun lounges for endless Vitamin D.
The Tasman squeezed onto the list at 49th place, having opened three years ago in Tasmania’s vibrant capital. Centrally located on Hobart’s iconic waterfront, The Tasman is an elegant heritage property taking its place within the former government offices. This is Marriott’s first Luxury Collection Hotel in Australia and blends three aesthetically unique buildings – The Pavilion, The Art Deco, and The Heritage – with each offering a unique stay that enhances the hotel’s charm.
Flight Hacks was on-site at The Tasman this morning, with Head Sommelier Michael Fisher explaining the award came somewhat out of the blue.
Fisher explains that an exceptional service-driven team puts The Tasman a cut above the rest, with staff aiming to deliver “Bespoke experiences that create and ignite the imagination,”. Combined with a superb location and breathtaking views, The Tasman serves up a recipe for success.
