Qantas Increases Points Cost For Rewards & Upgrades From August 2025
It will soon cost 5-20% more to redeem Qantas Points for flights.
Qantas Frequent Flyers will soon require more points to book and upgrade flights, as the airline makes almost every single Qantas Points redemption more expensive. The news hasn’t come as a surprise, with Qantas first announcing the devaluation in January 2025. When revealed, they provided some sample price changes, but now Qantas has officially released its updated reward tables.
While no loyalty scheme is immune to price hikes, and this marks the first increase to Classic Reward fares in six years, the news from Qantas Frequent Flyer isn’t exactly ideal. Apart from Jetstar Economy flights under 600 miles in distance, every single Qantas redemption will become around 5-20% more expensive for bookings made from 5 August 2025. Be sure to book before that date to secure the lower redemption rates currently offered.
Qantas Classic Rewards
From 5 August 2025, Qantas Classic Rewards for flights with Qantas, as well as their key partners Fiji Airways and American Airlines, will cost from 4.88% to 20.09% extra.

Jetstar Classic Rewards
The only good news from these new tables is the marketing gimmick of Jetstar Economy flights under 600 miles being 10.94% cheaper. But all other Jetstar Classic Rewards will become more expensive from 5 August 2025, with increases from 4.29% to 19.99%.

Partner Airline Classic Rewards
From 5 August 2025, Qantas will increase the cost of its Partner Classic Rewards too. That’s for flights with Air France, Alaska Airlines, Bangkok Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines, China Eastern, EL AL, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, KLM, LATAM Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines and WestJet. These tickets will cost from 4.92% to 20% more.

Oneworld Airline Classic Rewards
From 5 August 2025, Qantas Points redemptions for the Oneworld Classic Reward will increase by 4.92% to 20%. That’s bookings that contain more than two Oneworld airlines other than or in addition to Qantas, with pricing based on return trips. It’s also the reward many frequent flyers utilise to fly round-the-world using Qantas Points.

Qantas Classic Upgrade Rewards
Unfortunately, using Qantas Points for upgrades will also become more expensive from 5th August 2025. The updated Qantas Classic Upgrade Reward Tables can be found here.
For a general idea, domestic upgrades from Economy to Business will cost around 15% more on shorter routes under 1,200 miles (eg. Melbourne-Sydney and Adelaide-Melbourne) and 20% more on longer routes. International upgrades to Premium Economy, Business and First will also jump by around 10-20%.
Summing Up: Is It Really That Bad?
Qantas’ 5 August changes will come as the first increase to Classic Reward seat fares in six years, and the second since 2004. All up, a 20% bump isn’t too harsh, but it will still take a toll on the points balance of many loyal frequent flyers.
To lock in flights at the current rates, be sure to book before 4 August 2025.
