Qantas Shopping (Formally Qantas Online Mall) is an online portal that offers Qantas Frequent Flyers the ability to earn Qantas points when shopping online with partner stores. This is a great way to boost your points balance from your general spending. The Qantas Mall partners with hundreds of popular brands including Apple, Myer, David Jones, Cotton On and even Pizza Hut. Each retailer can be accessed via the Qantas Shopping website, which tracks your purchase and then awards you the appropriate Qantas points.

How many points can I earn with Qantas Shopping?

The earn rate differs between stores, with up to 13 points per $1 spent on offer at the time of writing. Qantas Shopping often has bonus points offers, with double or even triple points regularly on offer. Most of the time these offers are centered around peak shopping periods, such as Christmas and Black Friday sales. Plus, if you pay with a Qantas Points-earning credit card, you can double-dip your earnings (more on that later).

You can easily find a full list of retailers along with their applicable earn rates on the Qantas Shopping website.

Earning Points through Qantas Shopping

Shopping through the Qantas Online Mall is a relatively straightforward process. Although, I must confess that Qantas Shopping does not always work perfectly. Sometimes Qantas is not able to track your purchase, and therefore you must submit a claim for missing points, which is often tedious and time-consuming. But when it works, it works well.

Follow the step by step guide below to shop through the Qantas Shopping:

Step 1: Check your cookies are enabled so your purchase can be tracked. You should be able to find this option relatively easily in most browsers.

Step 2: Visit the Qantas Shopping and navigate to your chosen retailer.

Step 3: Click ‘Shop Now’ to link to your chosen retailer’s site. If you are not already logged into your Frequent Flyer account you will be prompted to do so before clicking ‘Shop Now’.

Step 4: Shop online and complete your purchase as normal. Be sure to stay on the page until your transaction is completed so Qantas can track your purchase.

Your points should then appear in your account 90 days after your purchase, although sometimes you will receive your points much sooner than this. It is always a good idea to set a calendar reminder for 90 days so you can go back and check that your points have arrived. If they haven’t, you may want to contact a Qantas Shopping representative.

Qantas Shopping vs Qantas Frequent Flyer store

You may have heard of Qantas’ Frequent Flyer store, which is often confused with the Qantas Shopping. The Frequent Flyer store is where you can redeem your Qantas points for items with over 500 brands. Unlike the Qantas Mall, you purchase directly from the Qantas Frequent Flyer store website. You must spend at least 2,000 points on each product, however you can pay for the rest in cash.

Redeeming points for products on the Qantas Frequent Flyer store is often one of the worst uses of Qantas points. Although it can be tempting to redeem your points here, the reality is that the amount of points charged often constitutes poor value. For example, you can pick up a Scanpan Impact 7 Piece Cookware Set online at the Qantas rewards store for a ridiculous 142,430 Qantas Points.

This looks like a great product, but the sting comes when you take a closer look at that price point. I found the same cookware set online for $274 with multiple online retailers including Catch. This means that you would be valuing each point at around 0.19 cents, which is simply terrible value. For 10,030 fewer points you could redeem a Qantas-Oneworld Round The World Award Booking in economy!

Plus, if you ordered with Catch, you could earn 2 points per $1 spent through Qantas Shopping!

Be sure to use a Qantas Credit Card

Paying for your online order with a Qantas points earning credit card means you can double-dip and earn points for your credit card spend as well as from the Qantas Mall. Here are two of our favourite offers right now:
